Skördetid by Mackmyra, the famous Swedish whiskey, has an Italian flavour in its latest seasonal release: uniquely, it’s been aged for six months in the same oak barrels used for the ageing of Amarone
Costasera. The product of a collaboration between Mackmyra, the Swedish distillery, and Masi, the historic wine producer from Valpolicella, Skördetid (which means "harvest time") is a unique limited edition product, a single malt whiskey with a spicy vanilla nose, plus all the fruitiness of Costasera.
For Raffaele Boscaini, coordinator of the
Masi Technical Group: "It is fascinating to see the interaction between these two products. There’s a real blending of quite different characteristics that takes place in these Amarone barrels to produce a distillate with an exceptional and unique soul." "When I visited Masi - says Carl Klingberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mackmyra - I immediately understood that this is a company that shares our values and methods. For this reason it was easy to convince our Master Blender, Angela D'Orazio - an Italian by origin - to create our first whiskey with an Amarone finish." Skördetid has its first maturation in
Mackmyra barrels in the Bodas mine in Sweden before its transferral to the 600-litre Masi barrels.
