Masi wines continue to take first place in the main 2021 Italian wine guides and collect prizes and special mentions abroad.
The valuable cru Mazzano 2012 of the Private Boscaini Cellars – a unique collection of valuable wines, produced in limited quantities and only in the very best years - has received the Tre Bicchieri award in the Guida del Gambero Rosso and the 5 Grappoli in the Guida Bibenda.
Mazzano 2012 has also been named amongst the wines at the very top of the Guida Essenziale ai Vini d'Italia signed by Daniele Cernilli “DoctorWine” with a score of 97/100 and awarded 4 Viti, the top score available in the Guida Vitae produced by the Associazione Italiana Sommelier.
Further confirmation, therefore, of Masi’s excellence in proposing its five Amaroni wines. Spotlight for the Amarone Mazzano coming from the vine by the same name located right in the heart of Valpolicella Classica, already known for its quality as far back as the 12th century. It is a wine with great personality and elegance, produced using ancient techniques for drying grapes, updated by the Masi Technical Group: a specialisation today recognised across the globe.
The Masi wines created using the drying technique also gather up prizes at the 2020 World Wine Awards run by the reputable English journal Decanter: 93 points to the Costasera 2015, Masi’s flagship Amarone, and 90 points to the Costasera Riserva 2015 and the Brolo Campofiorin Oro 2016 – both characterised by the presence of the ancient Oseleta grape, rediscovered by Masi.
Important notes of merit also come from the Canadian Master Sommelier and wine critic, John Szabo, who on the WineAlign.com portal assigned 93 points to the Amarone Costasera Riserva 2013, defining it as “extraordinarily refined and balanced” and 90 points to the Brolo Campofiorin Oro 2016.
Germany, one of the countries in the world that most appreciates our Lugana DOC, has also awarded an important prize to a Masi white, the new Lugana Beldosso 2018. Mundus Vini, a wine-making competition founded by the famous German publisher Meininger Verlag, assigns the gold medal and “Lugana Best of Show” award to this organic white wine with a strong character, which gleans its structure from significant refining in oak drums.
Sandro Boscaini, President of Masi commented:
“2020 draws to a close as a complicated year for the world of wine too, with the problems brought about for its qualified distribution by the COVID containment regulations: in Italy, worldwide and, in particular, in the international travel and tourism industry. Nature, however, has rewarded our patient with an excellent harvest and our technicians have worked to their usual high standards, duly being repaid once again by critics who acknowledge their commitment, constancy and love for their work. These recognitions gratify us and drive us to further optimise the territories, our care for our precious vineyards, the work in the cellars through to bringing uniquely excellent products to the table with a clear identity and boasting numerous awards”.
Masi CEO Federico Girotto added:
“During the hardest months of the lock-down, we chose to unveil two new Lugana wines, the Beldosso 2018 and the Lunatio 2019, also with a view to sending a strong signal of continuity of business despite these difficult times. The gold medal of Mundus Vini went to the Beldosso 2018, as fantastic proof of the quality and attention with which Masi works. Our company has always nurtured deep respect for tradition and been sensitive to the tastes of the most passionate consumer, whilst taking care to pay due attention to matters of sustainability: Beldosso and Lunatio are both organic wines representing classics of the great Verona tradition, interpreted in a contemporary style”.
